Seahawks vs. Falcons

Marshawn Lynch and the Seattle Seahawks get set to vie for divisional supremacy against an explosive Atlanta Falcons teams this Sunday January 13, 2013.

Lynch comes into the game as one of the NFL’s hottest running backs recording 5 straight 100 yard plus performances. Lynch carries the bulk of the load for a potent running attack (3rd NFL) and is a primary factor that has allowed rookie quarterback Russell Wilson to be so highly productive in an 11-5 season that has raised so many eyebrows.

On offense Lynch will need help from talented wide receiver Sidney Rice if the Seahawks expect to keep up with the Falcons. Particularly in the red zone, Rice will have to utilize his 6’4 frame to score touchdowns. This is exactly why he was brought in from Minnesota in 2011 to create match up problems when the Seahawks are near the goal line. Settling for three points on that afternoon will not be enough for the Seahawks to advance to the NFC Championship Title Game. Rice will have to prove his worth when it counts.

Opposite Rice on the Atlanta defense will be veteran corner-back Asante Samuel, a ball hawk who has recorded at least five interceptions per season over the last ten years. Samuel acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles is a nice addition to a Falcons secondary that needed two legitimate corners out on the edge. The combination of Samuel and Dunta Robinson has allowed the Falcons to outscore all but three of their opponents throughout the regular season.

Whatever the outcome of Sunday’s pivotal game, what can be certain is that you will see to highly motivated teams desperate to legitimize their franchises by pushing deeper into the post season and possibly earning a chance to play for all the marbles in Superbowl XLVII next month in New Orleans.

Asante Samuel is one of nine active players during the game that will display their dreads under the bright lights of the NFL. Other players include; Marshawn Lynch, Sidney Rice, Dunta Robinson, Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Roddy White, Robert James and Mike Peterson.
